The Wetmore-Hardscrabble Genealogical and Historical Society was founded in 2005 by native-born Wetmore resident Jeannie Culpin. In 2007, Jeannie purchased the old post office building (built in the 1870’s) in downtown Wetmore, Colorado. In May of 2008, the building was declared as a designated historic property by the National and State Historical Societies.
Jeannie’s mission was to provide a gathering place for those who were interested in learning about and preserving the history and genealogy of the Hardscrabble Creek area. With this goal in mind, Jeannie began the long renovation process on the building, and in 2009, the community celebrated the opening of the Wetmore Historical Center.
Our collection of family records and historical displays are currently housed at the Price Pioneer Museum in Florence, Colorado, where it is preserved and accessible to the community.
