The Hardscrabble sign is located at mile marker #2 on Hwy 67 between Florence and Wetmore.
In 2014, it received a fresh, new look with new concrete foundations, newly painted posts and a new grade to help with drainage. The sign was sanded, painted and refinished.
The work was done by Bill Phillips Fencing.
Then again in 2021, it needed a few more repairs to reinforce the supports damaged by the strong prairie winds.
The sign was removed in March of 2021 and taken to the Hayward residence for repairs. A metal frame was installed to the back of the sign to hold it all together, and the sign was mounted to drill pipe that was planted in the ground.
This work was done by Wetmore residents Dave Hayward, Dale Falske, George Scott, and Ron Mason.
